so… i originally planned between 30 seconds and a minute of animation. but i have now planned up to two minutes so i’m giving myself another week to animate. i also wanna get feedback from my lecturers, so i’m in no rush :)

started planning the camera angles as well… but they sucked :(

so now i’m looking to be finished everything and start rendering next weekend, yay :)

all’s going well. i think i’m on a minute of 90% finished animation… i’m leaving facial till last :)

i’m aiming to get to two minutes… there’s a specific part in the song i wanna get past so we’ll see how it goes.

thanks to dassie for my first and (so far) only comment… because of it i will take ur reccomendation and go with the black lighting. here are some updates just for you dassie!!!

and now i’ll let you in on a little secret. eskom is going to drop a bomb towards the end of the animation and the lights are going to go out. luckily our drummer has glow in the dark sticks… (wip)

side-note: all the work in this post was made in blender

first off here’s the background for a website i’m designing.  it’s for a local photographer, Chris Taylor.   It’s still a work in progress but this will be the main part of the interface.

i also started doing a few random logo shots for my church, common groundchurch, just for fun.  i will soon be helping with production of a series of 5 minute clips explaining theological truths. it’s going to be good!

and now for the real news. i’m on holiday now and am working on a short animation.  of course it’s going to be about drumming :) basically i’m using mancandy (a free rigged character for blender) and i will be animating him playing drums to a song…

so much for lyp-sync… this is going to be drum sync!

so here are some screenshots and (very) rough renders. no texturing yet, just finished modelling, but still lacking fine details like grip on the cymbol stands / correct logos etc

i’ve done most of the (basic) rigging, the double bass pedal took the longest (see above shot) and is my first attempt at rigging… special thanks to bassam kurdali for the mancandy faq which is slowly teaching me how to rig!

did a tiny bit of post on these render in photoshop… but nothing that can’t be done in blender’s compositor ultimately…

finally i get to some more recent work. here are some frames from a short animation exploring the concept of symmetry degrading over time… an early doodle for a collaboration with andrew putter. i’ll try post the video on youtube…

anyone who know’s blender will just laugh at the array modifier :)

my name is wayne berry, i am 20 years old and live in cape town

i studied design for three years at high school under andrew putter,
freelanced for a year, studied creative brand communications for a year at vega and am currently studying 3d animation

all the work you see here is most likely done in blender (3d) and photoshop (2d)

i am completely self-taught in 3… but will soon be taught maya at college

over and above all of that i am a sinner saved by grace and can’t help but fall more in love with Jesus every day
